February HFAY OLPS Races Sunday, February 24th, 2008

We’ve chosen the date for the OLPS races a bit earlier this month so those of you who want to participate have enough advanced warning. The date is Sunday February 24th, 2008 at 1PM. If you want to race please let me know in advance by emailing me at greg@minispeedway.com

Dave, Michael and I had a great time at the January race and the February track looks challenging and fast. Check it out!

Mini Speedway Open House February 15th

The building our Mini Speedway shop is in, known locally as The Nut Factory owing to one of its previous incarnations, is having an open house on Friday, February 15th, 2008 from 6PM to 9PM.

Mini Speedway will be participating with Open Track Time, entertainment from Groovesquad Live, a local improvisational electronica musician, specials and giveaways and, if all goes well, a fantastic local artist.

In addition to the Mini Speedway shop being open several other artist tenants of the building will also be participating.

Check out the Mini Speedway contact page for a map to the building.

Mini Speedway OLPS Races 1 and 2 Have Been Run!

Dave K, Michael D and I did the first 2 races in the Season 5 OLPS today. What a blast! The 8-minute races seemed to go by much faster than the 5-minute Time Trials I’ve been running. I guess the competition makes the time fly!

I liked the layout and felt it flowed well and was nice and fast.

I never got my car with the HFAY Spec motor running as consistently as the Ford GT I’ve been running for the Time Trials so I used the GT for these races. After the races were over I worked on the HFAY Car some more including changing the wheelbase to 94mm and the body to the NSX GT and found that it is already faster than the Ford so watch out next month!

Race 1 saw me with the win, Michael 2nd and Dave 3rd.

Race 2 still had me on top with Dave and Michael swapping positions.

I’m already looking forward to the February races and may set up the track for some practice soon. Meanwhile, I will leave the January track set up for a few more days and run it a few more times. Next month’s track looks a bit more challenging.

OLPS Season 5 Race 1 and 2 January 27th

The track layout for the January OLPS races 1 and 2 is set up at Mini Speedway. The only difference between races 1 and 2 is the direction the cars travel. Race 1 is Clockwise while race 2 is Counter Clockwise.

We will be racing at 1PM Sunday, January 27th, 2008.

This is a Stock class but the rules now allow a Spec motor to be used. I’ll post more info on how to get the Spec motor soon. Currently, I like the stock Kyosho motor more but have a couple of the HFAY Spec motors available for $20 each.

If you’d like to practice Friday evening or Saturday shoot me a note to greg@minispeedway.com and let me know. I’ll be at the shop both days.

Meanwhile here is the track layout.

Mini-Z Race and Practice in Milwaukee

We had our first actual practice session on Sunday, Dec 9th. We just ran a big oval so the new guys could get some laps in but I did set up the Core system for a run through. Every thing looks good. We had 5 guys this time but I have at least another half dozen interested already and we have not really made any announcements yet.

We are looking forward to the participating in  the HFAY OLPS in January!

Oh yeah, we also had a TV so we could watch the Packers have a great game. Go Pack!

Mini Speedway Practice

Hi Racers,

Our plan is to open for regular race nights in January 2008. Meanwhile, we do have a track set up and usable for practice. Currently we are running variations on the How Fast Are You Time Trial Tracks with the goal of submitting our first set of times before we officially open.

If you are interested in practicing with us we are running on an irregular schedule but some idea of times is as follows:

Wednesday Evenings from 4PM to 9PM
Thursday Evenings from 5:30PM to 9PM
Saturdays from 10AM to 4PM

If you are interested in joining us shoot me an email to greg@minispeedway.com or call Greg at 414-534-3214.
